"Actually, I think those are the only two names I've ever used in my life.
The whole story is, when I was born my name was Brent Spiner. My father's
name was Jack Spiner. That's the name on my birth certificate. My father passed
away when I was very young, ten months old, and my mother remarried when I
was six to a monster. His name was Mintz and he adopted me and my brother.
When I moved to New York my name was still legally Mintz when I did Polly.
Then I did a show after Polly called Family and I knew I was going to be reviewed
by the New York Times and I thought, well it's now or never, so I went to
Actors Equity and Screen Actors Guild and changed my name back to my real
name. That's why that name was there. That was fascinating, by the way, wasn't
it?"

THE SPIN ON SPINER is a detailed, comprehensive, annotated survey of all Brent Spiner's roles through untill 1996. The emphasis is on Brent's non-Star Trek career, although Star Trek is not left out entirely. The book has five sections covering Brent's pre-New York years and his theater, television, movie, computer game, and recording credits. The entries are varied and include such information as the basics for each role (date, character name, etc.), extended synopses emphasizing what Brent's character got to do and how he fit in with the rest of the show, production notes, reviews, Brent's "spin" (anecdotes, reminiscences, etc.), and miscellaneous interesting tidbits. In addition, there are entries for things Brent didn't do -- bad auditions, roles turned down, roles not offered, misattributed roles.
